About The Financial Frenchie

Making financial literacy fun, accessible, and dog-approved

A story about a woman, a blue-gray Frenchie with big bat ears, and a mission that was too important to leave unfinished.

The Mission

Kids today meet money on a screen long before they ever hold a dollar bill. Allowance arrives through an app. Grandparents send birthday money with a tap. Games ask for passwords and payment details.

Children need a guide for that world — one who makes earning, saving, spending wisely, giving generously, and staying safe with digital money feel like a superpower. That guide is Dexter, The Financial Frenchie.

Meet Amy McGraw

Author & Chief Financial Frenchie Wrangler

Amy McGraw has spent more than 25 years helping people feel more confident about money. Since 2001, she has worked alongside credit unions and community banks in marketing, member experience, digital banking, and strategy — including senior leadership roles as Chief Experience Officer and Chief Innovation Officer.

Along the way, Amy noticed something: kids today meet money on a screen long before they ever hold a dollar bill. She knew children needed a guide for that world, and she knew exactly who it should be.

Amy started writing the first book with Dexter curled up next to her for inspiration. When tragedy struck and Dexter passed away at just 3½ years old, she put the book away for more than a year. A friend's gentle reminder — that finishing the book would honor Dexter's memory — brought her back. And in doing so, she gave Dexter a new mission.

The Real Dexter

The Real Dexter

Blue-gray. Green-eyed. Superhero.

Dexter was a blue-gray French bulldog with big bat ears, a loud snore, and a firm belief that superheroes ride in strollers. He was dubbed The Financial Frenchie during the filming of early videos and even got a cape featuring his adorable fuzzy face.

He was a gentle soul who preferred snacks, belly rubs, and stroller rides to actual walks. He loved his brothers and could often be found snoring away in the clam bed with a sibling or his cousin Lily — another Frenchie with far more energy than Dexter could handle.

His favorite thing? Snort kisses. For anyone and everyone. He won over every single person he met.

Dexter passed away at the tender age of 3½. He is deeply missed — but his new mission lives on. We hope it makes him snort with laughter over the rainbow bridge.
